Unrequited love

Today, Ladies and Gentleman, I want to talk about unrequited love{as you may or may not have guessed from this posts title, you do notice that kind of thing don't you?}. Not the unrequited love we normally discuss, where you pledge your undying love to a guy who looks at you and bravely says, "Well, actually I don't find you attractive", or "Have we met? Do I need to tell you AGAIN that I have a restraining order?" not that said sad & pathetic situation(s) have ever happened to me. I hear it sucks and can be expensive in the restraining order case. No, I am talking about unrequited blog love.

You know what I mean, you go to your favorite blogs ,or ten, and read the post thoughtfully. You then open blogger's comment window and seriously read everybody else's comment so as not to repeat what a fellow blogger observed. Then you sit for 10 minutes with the cursor blinking at you trying to figure out the perfect comment, one that will showcase your sparkling wit and charming personality. And then you wait, and wait... Nothing. Said blog author never visits your blog or even comments on your comment on their blog. Although they may respond to other fellow blogger's comments. *sigh* At least I am not a blogging slut. . .Now THAT would be pathetic.

Unrequited love, it's painful people.

Just so you know, I DID pay attention to the title of this blog because I had to look it up in the dictionary! I learned a new word today.

What is your definition of a blogging slut? As a fairly new blogger I am still not up to par on the whole blog lingo.

please see my post dated March 28 for my very own def. of a blogging slut. I coined the term by the way. :) :)

Perfect! I love the idea of a blog slut...however, I think I am merely a blog-stalker...

Thanks so much for your comment... I am glad you took the time and I am digging your blog... especially as, I too, mourn the Tom Cruise of yesteryear.

Well, I'm not sure if you were zinging me or not... but here I am, sending some commentary love your way!

Jodi said...

Kristen, I am not a blogging slut either. Read my post from March 28 if you want and you'll understand. I'm just sayin'....

Wopanese- No darlin' I was talking about you, silly! You have been great. There's a few others I won't name here, hell it wouldn't matter they don't come to my wee little blog anyway, that just never come to my blog although I have posted on thier blog and visited more than I care to mention. I think I may quit stalking those select blogs, that'll show 'em! :) Thanks for the luv either way. I'll take what I can get!

you know, i have left SEVERAL comments on one of the, shall we say, "A list" blogs and they were witty! and cute! and interesting! Or, not... but, hey, I tried. So far, not even a reciprocal visit... I guess, when your comments number over 50 a post you are just too busy?!

Jodi said...

EXACTLY. See you feel my pain! :) thanks for visiting my wee little blog. I will ALWAYS acknowledge my vistors.

Jodi said...

Oh, and Kristin, please dish. Give me a clue as to how one would find such an "a list" blog. I want to know if it's the same one I stalk, *cough* I mean frequent???

jennster said...

omgosh... i totally have that. i read ventura mom and i am certain she doens't know i exist! she hates me and i just have to accept that. lol

Jodi said...

Jennster, I am going to check out Ventura Mom right now! Hhehehee. We'll stalk her as a collective unit. I don't think I have ever been there....I go to Surburan Turmoil and I KNOW that Lucinda doesn't know I exist in her blog world. Or else she hates me. either way I am not bitter, not at all....:)

Kristin said...

ok, as long as we are talking about bloggers who hate us... um, Yvonne over at Joy Unexpected? All cheery and full of fun, but, quite obviously a hater of moi!! I have visited and POSTED LIKE A MADWOMAN, but, so far, not even a tiny peep!!

Well, howdy!

Back when I was just getting my blog feet wet and murky, I emailed a couple of the big bloggers. I wasn't sure what "etiquette" was at that point. I didn't want to go commenting on their blogs without introducing myself. Well, they never replied to my emails, but I know they looked at my blog thanks to my handy statcounter. I just thought that was so rude!

I went about sharing my comment love with them. And, then the further along I got into this whole blogging mix, I realized I didn't even like one of them anyway. We couldn't be on more opposite pages in life. So, it all worked out. And, now I comment when I feel like I have something to say/add, not because I'm looking for reciprocation.

I find now the people that comment on my blog and the blogs I comment on are people I *like*, and it would've been a dead-end relationship with the others. You know..one of those, "it's not you, it's me" break-up conversations. ;-)

I try to comment back if someone's come to my blog....but sometimes I get busy and can't. It's a drag feeling unloved!

Jodi said...

Kristen- I went and checked out Joy Unexpected. It was okay, if you like those mommy blogs :), I like yours better! :) But I will keep stalking her if it will make you feel better.

Lisa- Thanks for the wise words of wisdom, my dear. I don't normally comment on people's blogs because I want them to acknowledge me, usually I comment becuase the spirit moves me and I am just sure that somebody in blogging land wants to hear my unbaised and uncensored opinion. It would just be nice for them to at least give me a blog nod, ya know? I hate to feel like I am just one of the masses worshipping at thier feet...

Random Girl-Thanks for commenting and stopping by. :) And it does bite the big one to feel unloved. But I got 13 comments on this post, well some were mine, but STILL, 13 comments is good and makes me happy happy happy and quite loved I may add.

Anybody else reading--tell me what blogs you frequent and nary get a nod back, I wanna know!!!

I'm pretty sure Cha0tic has never responded to my comments on his blog but he has read mine and commented on it, and Erudite Baboon responds to comments but doesn't read my site. (both not on blogger - links on my site if you're interested.)

I always try to get back to someone within a day or so after leaving a comment on my blog. Unless, of course, they use an anon email. Then I will leave a comment in my comments.

I used to send encouraging emails to a popular blogger who is always complaining about being hated and she never responded. I think it is only good etiquette to send a quick thanks when someone is blowing sunshine up your butt. So, instead, I just started sending very large pictures of my son to her, so that I bulked up her inbox. I never heard from her, but that passive aggressive act made me feel better.

Hey, I got here via Jennster, and this post is perfect. I know just what you mean! SOmetimes I get even MORE annoyed because I leave these witty perfect comments at the big guns, and they NEVER so much as wink at me, and then I see them commenting around the OTHER big guys. Blech. I'm speaking of WOulda Coulda SHoulda in particular.
Oh, but I should defend Joy Unexpected, she's really awesome. I'm sure she just accidentally overlooked you!

Hmmm... I can think of two or three, names withheld, that don't ever respond to my comments.
I just figure it's par for the course, and enjoy their writing while knowing they are either too busy or too snotty to respond.

I was just referred over from Jennster who linked to this post.

I'm pretty new to blogging so these topics are so interesting to me as I am still learning the blogging etiquette. Anyway, for everyone who visits my blog, I try to give them a visit back with a comment on their latest post.

Out of curiosity, what's a blogging slut? I just really don't want to be one of those.

I already know I have bloggeritis. That's bad enough.

after reading jennster's blog on this subject i looked on your page to see what she was referring to...I don't respond to every comment...because comments are most of the time just that...a comment...but I do appreciate it when someone reads my blog and someone who reads my blog on a regular basis gets the same kind of loyalty from me. So if im not responding directly to a comment, I'm reading their blog or visiting their site or downloading their porn (you get the idea)

I found you via Jennster as well. I have to say that I do get annoyed if I post a lot of comments on a blog and never receive a comment back from the person who's blog I comment on. I visit and comment on the blogs of everyone who comments on mine. I try to do it daily, but even when I'm really busy and can't get to it daily, I'll sit down one day during the week and comment to everyone who has commented on my blog over the course of the week (that's only happened twice).

Another thing I do is put all of the people who have commented on my blog into BlogLines so I can keep up to date on their blogs. I tend to read the blogs in my BlogLines daily - or when they are updated.

I can't think of how many blogs I've commented on that I haven't received comments back from. I put up a new post almost daily. During my breaks from work, I go around to commenting on other peoples blogs. I probably leave 25 to 30 comments on other blogs each day. That means that really I should be getting 25 to 30 comments on each of my posts, but unfortunately I average somewhere in the neighborhood of 8. That means that 17 to 22 people do not acknowledge my comments each day - which further demonstrates how widespread blog snobbery can be.

Great post. Hopefully it will make an impact, and people will start responding to comments more.

Sorry for writing such a long comment. I've added you to my bloglines so I don't loose you. I love your blog.

Lisa said...

I know what you mean. If the A listers forget "the little people" that put them there, I get turned off after awhile.

Found your blog through Jennster. Am really digging it. :-)

Suburban Turmoil said...

Hell, Jodi, I'm flattered. You definitely register in my blog world.

I stress out about comments every single day. I love getting comments. Love it. But I find it difficult to visit every blogger that comments every day -and- keep up with my blog friends, some of whom never comment on my blog, but e-mail a few times a week. I know I've pissed people off (unintentionally) because I haven't visited their blog enough- Seriously, if there were more hours in the day and fewer carpools to run, I'd visit everyone with no problems.

So yeah, keep commenting. :)

HAHAHA! Love your post and for your honesty! I have thought this to myself, possibly even outloud to myself (using profanity) and totally 100 percent agree! I found your blog from Jennsters blog. Will stop by again! Love your humor.

I love reading your blog. Mine is lame compared to the few that I read faithfully almost every day. I do try and comment on the blogs that have commented on mine but it may not be every day simply because if my opinion already agrees with what has already been commented I feel I don't always need to add. That and of course the fact that I'm on the shy side and don't have the self confidence to just out right speak my mind sometimes. Being a people pleaser I don't like to make waves...just my thoughts.
